“Gatets” with potatoes

To make "Gatets” with potatoes, the ingredients we will need are the following:

  • 1 kg of "gatets" (small fish).
  • ½ kg of potatoes.
  • 300 gr of cooked beans.
  • 4 garlic cloves.
  • 1 slice of bread.
  • 1 tomato.
  • ½ teaspoon of paprika.
  • A sprig of parsley.
  • ½ liter of wáter.
  • 30 gr of oil for the minced/ “picada” (a Catalan mixture).
  • 60 gr of oil for the stew.
  • Salt to taste.
  • 1 chili pepper.
  • 1 glass of white wine.

First of all, we need to blanch the "gatets." We will place a pot of water and bring it to a boil. Put the "gatets" in a container, and once the water is boiling, pour it over the "gatets," leaving it for ten minutes. After the time has passed, drain the "gatets" and set them aside.

We will fry the garlic, the slice of bread, and the chili pepper. Once fried, we will place them in a mortar, add the parsley, paprika, and salt to taste, and grind everything together. Once everything is ground, we will add the grated tomato and grind it as well. Set the "picada" aside.

We will heat the 60 g of oil for the stew in a pot, and once hot, we will add the "picada". After about two minutes, we will add the wine and let it evaporate. Then, we will add the water, and when it starts boiling, we will add the sliced potatoes. We will let the potatoes boil for about 10 minutes, then add the "gatets." After five more minutes, we will add the cooked beans and let it cook for another two minutes. We will adjust the salt, and if necessary, add a bit more water. We will serve it and enjoy.
