Diving Route
You would think that this route should be included in the Nature Coast and Mountain route, but considering the entity and the change of environment, it was decided to create a custom built route. The beaches where you will find this route are Cala Vidre, Pixavaques, Estany and Cala Llobeta. On this route we can find three settings: The rock bottom, the sandy bottom and posidonia seagrass. Rock Bottom is a type of bed that is an extension of the rock formations found on land. It is a very diverse habitat, very well lit when it’s shallow, so there are many species of algae. You can also find many species of animals that live mostly in holes, crevices and small caves. The sandy bottom is very changable as a result of currents and waves. Although it looks like a desert, we can find animals hiding partially by burying themselves and others who adopt similar colouring to the bottom to go unnoticed. For this reason you have to look hard to see them. Posidonia is a seagrass (Podifonis ovrsnivs), a habitat that is only found in the Mediterranean. Posidonia is a plant, not a seaweed, with roots, stems, leaves and flowers. It form extensive meadows, among which you can find up to 700 species of animals and plants. Although it is a protected species, it’s in regression. For this reason it is increasingly difficult to see on our shores.
1. Cala Llobeta (Underwater Route)
It would be reasonable to think that this route should be included in the Coastal Nature and Mountain route, but taking into account the entity and the environmental changes, it was decided that it should have its own route. The beaches we will find on this route are Cala Vidre, Pixavaques, Estany and Cala Llobeta. Along this route we will discover three environments: the rocky bed, the sandy bed and posidonia. The rocky bed is a type of sea bed that is an extension of the rocks found on land. It is a very varied environment, its very light when it is shallow and as such there are many types of algae. There are also many different animals that live in this environment, above all in holes, cracks and small caves. The sandy bed is constantly changing due to the current and waves. Although it is dessert like, we can find animals hiding and partially buried and others who adopt similar colouring to the bottom to go unnoticed and you have to concentrate hard to see them. Posidonia is a meadow (Podifonis ovrsnivs) which can only be found in the Mediterranean. It is a plant, not an algae, with roots, stems, leaves and flowers. It makes up extensive meadows in which you can find around 700 species of animal and plant life. Although it is a protected species, it is in regression. As such it is getting harder to sea along our coasts.
