The Governmental Fire Department, composed of over 5,000 personnel, develops fire prevention; fire fighting and rescues attributed to the Government of Catalonia and coordinates its services to the entire territory except the city of Barcelona, which has its own fire department. These tasks also involve personnel from the prevention services and fire fighting of local entities, volunteer fire fighters, fire companies and personnel designed to meet specialized technical support and assistance tasks. Government fire fighters and fire trucks are involved in all types of emergencies: fires in homes, industry, vegetation, subsidence, diverse rescues in areas such as mountains, water, housing, rail infrastructure, rescuing of people trapped in road accidents, floods. Also working in operational prevention, both to minimize the risk of accidents to be more prepared in case it happens.
