L'Ametlla de Mar renews the seven distinctive of "Platges Verges" (Virgin Beaches)
L'Ametlla de Mar remains the leader in Virgin Beaches with seven distinctives . Torrent del Pi, Port Olivet, Santes Creus, cala Llenya, Estany Podrit, l'Illot, and the cove at Cap de l'Àlia have renewed their "Ecologistes en Acció" award. La Cala is the municipality in Tarragona with the most virgin beaches along its coastline.
This was announced by the environmentalists during the flag-raising ceremony held last Friday in Torredembarra. The deputy mayor, Jani Brull, received the awards that recognize the beaches that maintain their natural state. The councilor emphasized the commitment to preserve these virgin coastal areas.
In total, the 'Platges Verges' (Virgin Beaches) award has been granted to 25 beaches across eleven municipalities. The aim is to turn this award, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, into an ecological symbol for those beaches that remain in a more natural state. Miquel Llop is the president of the Ecologistes en Acció Group in Tarragona and the Ebre.
In addition to the seven calcareous beaches, the Ebro Delta region has also renewed the awards for Bassa de l'Arena, La Marquesa, and Punta del Fangar in Deltebre; Les Timbes and the wetlands of Sòl de Riu in Alcanar; Cala Maria and Cala Capellans in l'Ampolla; El Trabucador in Sant Carles de la Ràpita; and Els Eucaliptus in Amposta.
