L'Ametlla de Mar's train station (PK207.3 on the Valencia-Tarragona line) is located in the north-east of the town centre, very close to the AP-7 motorway and where it has always been. The train came to l'Ametlla de Mar in 1865 with the inauguration of the Tarragona to l’Aldea-Amposta line. The station was renovated in the mid nineties, when the high speed service between Vandellos and Oropesa del Mar was opened and speeds were reached of 220km/h. There are four lines running through the station two of which have platforms. The two lines which run through the middle without platforms are for trains which run on the line but don’t stop at l’Ametlla. The two with platforms are partially undercover for the comfort of travellers. There is an underpass between the two platforms with stair access. The travel office and building is situated to the right of the lines, on the Tortosa line, and is a new single floor building. Inside the building there is a waiting room and ticket office, toilets and the Rail Guards office. To complete the l’Ametlla de Mar Station facilities there is an electric power plant which feeds the line and is located on the Tarragona side and has access for a maintenance coach.
