Ways to enjoy the "galeres": A gastronomic treasure of the sea
We are currently celebrating the “Galera” Gastronomic Days of the Terres de l'Ebre, an event organized by the Tarragona Provincial Council in collaboration with the fishing villages of Alcanar, La Ràpita, l'Ampolla, and l'Ametlla de Mar. For all lovers of fine cuisine, we know that “galeres” hide an exquisite flavour, and we want to help you make the most of them. Therefore, we present you with different ways to cook and enjoy them like never before!
1. Grilled “galeres”.
One of the simplest and most authentic ways to enjoy them. Just place them on a hot grill with a drizzle of olive oil and a pinch of salt. In a few minutes, they release their full marine aroma, and you can eat them by opening them with your hands to extract the juicy meat.
If you're looking for a healthy and flavourful option, the oven is your best friend. Add a pinch of salt and pepper, and let them cook gently to preserve their full marine aroma.
3. “Galeres” in a fish broth.
A classic dish of Catalan cuisine, especially in the Terres de l’Ebre. When cooked in a fish stew, the “galeres” infuse the broth with their essence, making it incredibly flavourful.
“Galera” is a key ingredient in any type of rice dish: soupy, dry, or creamy. They add an intense, marine flavour that makes this dish an unforgettable gastronomic experience.
5. Fried “galeres”.
An irresistibly crispy option! Fried in local extra virgin olive oil, they maintain their texture and intensify their marine flavour, making them an ideal choice for fried fish lovers.
6. Rice with spinach, beans, and “galeres”.
A typical dish from the Terres de l’Ebre that combines protein, carbohydrates, and vegetables in a nutritious and delicious recipe. Easy to prepare and full of flavour!
7. “Galeres” with onion and tomato.
When the sweetness of the onion merges with the intense flavour of the “galeres”, the result is spectacular. Don’t forget to have a good loaf of local bread nearby... this dish is perfect for dipping!
8. Rice with “galeres”, "congre", and artichokes.
To conclude this gastronomic journey, an exquisite combination of land and sea ingredients, offering an explosion of flavours that will delight your palate.
